Labor Day Events
Keep in mind that the events listed are just a few of the many different things Santa Fe and Albuquerque have planned for 2015.
- Burning of Zozobra – On September 4th at Fort Marcy Park you can watch ceremonial dances of ghosts and fire at the annual event known as the Burning of Zozobra. Referred to as “Old Man Gloom”, Zozobra is set ablaze and as he burns, feelings of dread, gloom, and doom from the past year are said to fade away. People swear that while Zozobra burns, his cries can be heard for miles around the city of Santa Fe.
- Skiing – While celebrating Labor Day in Santa Fe you might consider getting in a day of snow skiing. During September 5th through 7th, you will find special rates for skiing at the Santa Fe Ski Area. The lifts open at 9:00 am and close at 4:30 pm, giving you ample time to enjoy any number of nighttime festivities if wanted. The ski area also offers live music and an amazing beer garden.
- Marietta Jazz – Labor Day is just as exciting in Albuquerque. Scheduled for September 5th from 2:00 to 5:00 pm is this event, which boasts live jazz music, art, and great food. Simply head down to the Albuquerque Museum of Art & History for an incredible time with other people who appreciate jazz. This year, Marietta Benevento will perform, known for her smooth and playful style.
- Jazz – Another opportunity during the Labor Day weekend is free jazz at the Grand Ballroom of the Isleta Resort & Casino. In addition to outstanding music entertainment, you will be served magnificent food and fine wines prepared by culinary masters.
